The highlight of this tour is the 90% chance of seeing a group of habituated Western Lowland Gorilla at Dzanga Sangha Reserve which is part of a tri-national equatorial forest reserve between Cameroon, Central African Republic and Congo.

Relaxing on Cameroon’s stunning beaches book end a journey deep into the equatorial forest.

Dzanga Sangha is one of Africa’s hidden and forgotten jewels. It is the only place in West Africa to have habituated a group of Western Lowland Gorillas. With WWF conservationists and Ba’Aka (Pygmy) trackers you will have a once in a lifetime experience viewing the gorilla and forest elephant and experiencing the unique culture of the Ba’Aka people. You will stay in a Ba’Aka village and go net hunting with them.

And with its Bais (clearings in the forest where animals come to water and eat grasses) there is a high chance of seeing other forest wildlife - buffalo, forest elephant, gazelle, chimpanzees and even the rare sighting of leopard.

This trip also includes Limbe, one of my favourite towns in Africa. Limbe is a small, friendly fishing town with beautiful beaches and every view dominated behind by Mount Cameroon, west Africa’s highest peak, and out at sea the mountain of Malabo, part of Equatorial Guinea.

There is an added option to climb Mount Cameroon.

Note

This trip is timed to fit in with Air France (www.airfrance.co.uk) or Royal Air Maroc (www.royalairmaroc.com) flights to Douala.

This trip is to a remote part of Cameroon and The Central African Republic. Tourism is undeveloped which makes the journey more unique and authentic. This means that there is not always an established tourist infrastructure so standards of accommodation can vary and there may be on the ground adjustments to the itinerary depending on local conditions.
