I am excited to announce my new Rift Valley Safari.

Of all the regions of Africa, the Serengeti and Tanzania may seem a strange choice for a company that specializes in off the beaten track travel.

Tourism on this side of Africa can tend towards a type of travel that is not really my thing: "table cloths and silver-service in the bush" as I call it - a high end, "luxury" product that replicates a colonial mythologised view of the continent and has nothing to do with African people and their reality.

But behind this, on the fringes of the Serengeti, is a human history and culture that stretches back to the beginnings of time.
